Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about steel sourcing, specifications, shipping, and working with SHEDAR.

1. What is the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)?

MOQ varies by product category:

  • Steel coils (HRC, CRC, GI, PPGI): Typically 25-50 tons per specification.
  • Steel plate / structural sections: Typically 25-50 tons per specification.
  • Steel pipe: Varies by size and type; inquire with specific dimensions.
  • Rebar: Typically one 20ft container (25-28 tons) per diameter.

LCL (less than container load) mixed product inquiries are welcome for smaller quantities.

2. What steel grades and material specifications are available?

SHEDAR coordinates supply across a broad range of international standards:

  • Structural steel: ASTM A36, A572 Gr 50, S235, S275, S355, SS400, Q235, Q345
  • Steel plate: ASTM A36, A572, A516, EN 10025, GB/T 3274, ship plate (ABS/DNV)
  • Steel pipe: API 5L Gr B/X42-X70, ASTM A53, A106, A252, EN 10219
  • Rebar: ASTM A615 Gr 40/60, BS 4449 Gr 460/500, GB 1499
  • Coated steel: ASTM A653 (GI), JIS G3302, EN 10346

Other standards and grades are available upon inquiry. Please specify required standard in your RFQ.

3. What surface treatment options are available?

Surface treatment is coordinated per project requirement:

  • Hot-Dip Galvanizing (HDG): Zinc coating per ASTM A123 / EN ISO 1461 for corrosion protection of structural steel and pipe.
  • Pre-Galvanized (GI): Continuous hot-dip coating for coils and sheets — standard coating weights from Z60 to Z275.
  • Color Coating (PPGI/PPGL): Pre-painted galvanized/galvalume coils with standard RAL color options.
  • Paint/Epoxy Coating: Industrial coatings for steel pipe and structural sections — coordinated per project specification.
  • Shot Blasting / Primer: Surface preparation and shop primer for structural steel.
  • Pickled & Oiled: Hot rolled pickled and oiled (HRPO) finish for improved surface quality.

4. What shipping terms (Incoterms) do you offer?

SHEDAR supports the following International Commercial Terms (Incoterms):

  • FOB (Free On Board): Goods loaded onto vessel at origin port. Buyer arranges onward shipping and insurance.
  • CFR (Cost & Freight): SHEDAR arranges freight to destination port. Buyer arranges insurance.
  • CIF (Cost, Insurance & Freight): SHEDAR arranges freight and insurance to destination port.
  • DAP (Delivered At Place): Goods delivered to buyer’s specified location. Includes inland transport.

Export from coastal ports in Shandong Province. The most suitable incoterm depends on project logistics and buyer preference.

5. Can you provide custom dimensions, cutting, or processing?

Yes. Custom processing is coordinated per order:

  • Cut-to-length: Steel plate, pipe, and sections cut to specified dimensions.
  • Slitting: Coil slit to specified widths for manufacturing use.
  • Beveling & Threading: Pipe end preparation — beveled ends for welding, threaded ends for coupling.
  • Drilling & Punching: Holes per drawing for structural fabrication.
  • Custom Packing: Bundling, palletizing, steel strapping, and labeling per buyer requirement.

Provide detailed drawings or specifications in your inquiry for accurate quotation.

6. What payment terms are accepted?

Standard payment terms for steel export transactions:

  • T/T (Telegraphic Transfer): 30% deposit with order, 70% balance before shipment or against shipping documents.
  • L/C (Letter of Credit): Irrevocable L/C at sight from a reputable international bank. Terms must be confirmed before order.

Payment terms are confirmed per transaction and may vary based on order size and buyer relationship.

7. What is the typical lead time from order to delivery?

Lead time depends on product type, specification, and order quantity:

  • Standard stock products (coils, rebar, standard sections): 2-4 weeks from order confirmation to ready for shipment.
  • Mill production orders (non-stock specifications): 4-8 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Custom processing orders (cut-to-length, slitting, coating): Add 1-2 weeks to production lead time.
  • Shipping transit time: 1-6 weeks depending on destination region and incoterm.

Estimated lead time is confirmed during quotation phase.

8. What quality certification documents are provided?

Standard documentation package includes:

  • Mill Test Certificate (MTC): Per EN 10204 3.1 — covering chemical composition, mechanical properties, and dimensional inspection.
  • Third-Party Inspection Report: When required — coordinated with SGS, Bureau Veritas (BV), TUV, or customer-nominated agency.
  • Certificate of Origin (C/O): Issued by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
  • Packing List & Weight Certificate: Detailed bundle/coil breakdown with weight and piece count.
  • Commercial Invoice: Issued per order with full product and value description.
  • Bill of Lading (B/L): Issued by shipping line upon loading.

Additional certification (e.g., classification society certificates for ship plate) is coordinated per project requirement.
